What are common side effects of a hysterectomy?
The common side effects that can be experienced after a hysterectomy may include:
- Vaginal bleeding/discharge for up to 6 weeks
- If the hysterectomy also removes your ovaries, menopausal symptoms usually occur
- Bowel and/or bladder function changes (UTI, constipation, incontinence, etc)
- Blood clots from the operation
Most if not all of the side effects can be addressed through other treatments. Your surgeon will monitor your progress and provide instructions on how to deal with any side effects that may arise.
